The terracotta panel called "The First Hour of the Crucifixion" by the ceramic artist George Tinworth was added in 1937 and the northeast corner of the Minster was rechristened St Stephen's Chapel after the church's first martyr. The relief shows early afternoon on Good Friday while the other two crosses are just being erected. Tinworth died 24 years before before his work became the reredos (altar screen).
My favorite statue here is that of the marble goddess of health Hygeia mourning the 1773 loss of a local doctor. Hers was not the first exposed breast in the Minster: One of the original nave bosses showed Mary feeding baby Jesus. However, when it was restored during Victorian times, her breasts were covered and Jesus got a bottle. Was that more hygienic?
