Zagreb, Croatia -- At the base of the tower we find the Zagreb Funicular -- one of the steepest (52 % grade) and shortest in the world dedicated to public transport. It ends at the main town square about 215 feet (and 55 seconds) below. This is pretty much the original appearance (1890) although it hasn't run on steam since 1934 when it was electrified. (Thank you, Mr. Tesla.) It connects into the electric tram system which is free in the tourist areas (and the trams are often painted this same blue shade).
