Zagreb, Croatia -- Bollé worked on over 70 buildings in his career. Born in Cologne, he died in Zagreb and is buried here along with a pantheon of the city's leaders. In 1875 he traveled to Italy and was sketching its classical monuments when he met Zagreb's great archbishop/politician -- Josip Strossmayer -- who convinced him to relocate. The rest, as they say, is architectural history.
