Here we look from St. John's fortress north towards the Revelin Fortress, built around 1580 as the Ottoman Turks threatened. It's the design of Antonio Ferramolino, a military architect from Bergamo. For 11 years no other construction was allowed so that all resources could focus on fortifying this point with all deliberate speed. A chain would be suspended between these forts to the breakwater (called "Kaise") at right to keep out enemy ships during time of siege.
