Okay, so this page is really weak. I'm working on it! (maria)
The picture of the Eiffel tower above was actually taken by a friend of my Father's with a digital camera. I think it really captures the essence of what you could see in person. The Eiffel tower was absolutely sparkling with all the lights. It was quite amazing and beautiful.
Here's a pre-millenium picture of Mike and Maria with their glasses:
We went to dinner with my parents at a wonderful (one star in the Michelin book) restaurant, Pierre a la Fontaine Gaillon in the 2nd arrondisment. Here's a picture taken after we came back from dinner:
Then we decided to put on comfortable shoes and hit the streets to see the spectacle with the millions of other people with the same idea. For the most part, the crowd was great and all the streets were blocked off so there was only foot traffic. We only got smushed a little bit on the Champs-Elysees one time but managed to get away unscathed and reconnect with our party. There were several artistically-modified ferris wheels set up in the middle of the street and there were concerts and performance art on many of them.
As they say in France, "Bonne Annee"
